We are now sending out double free wool to older people across Somerset and North Somerset who would like some, to enable knitters to carry on knitting during lockdown.
Thanks to the dozens of kind people who have donated wool to us, we are now sending out double the amount of wool to older people in Somerset who would like some!
The Balls for Boredom project started at the beginning of the first Lockdown in March 2020 to ensure that any older people who were staying at home still had access to wool to knit with even if they couldn’t get to the shops or buy their supplies of wool online. We wanted to help ease the boredom of lockdown.
We started out with 100 balls of wool to send out and Girlings Retirement Rentals made a generous donation to cover the cost of postage. We ran out of wool quite quickly but then lots of people who read about the project started sending us their spare balls!
The image above shows Sally, the Volunteer who stores and sends the wool, having lost the use of her spare bedroom (but she’s not allowed visitors at the moment anyway!) due to it being buried under all the donated wool. We have so much we have decided to double the amount we are sending out, so instead of 2 balls, for now you will receive 4 balls in the post!
