The WHAM project offers indepth support and home visits for people struggling with staying warm at home and paying their fuel bills in the North Somerset area.

BS Postcode? Problems with electricity pre-payment meter top ups?

The Warmer Homes Advice and Money Project (WHAM) has been awarded a small pot of additional funding from Bristol Energy to provide fuel vouchers to clients in BS postcode who are struggling to top up their prepayment meters due to COVID-19. This may be due to reduced income but also if you are self-isolating and can’t top up your meter online/over the phone or don’t have friends/family who can do it for you.

The top ups are issued in the form of voucher codes (redeemable at paypoint/payzone outlets) which are distributed by WHAM caseworkers, they are awarded on a discretionary basis for clients who are in an emergency situation, unable to top up their meter and at risk of disconnection. If clients are self-isolating and don’t have anyone who can take their key/card to the shops for them then one of our caseworkers may be able to drive round and pick up the key/card, top it up and bring it back to the meter.

If you are struggling to top up the advice should be to first contact their supplier, but if you have done this and the supplier is either unable to help or has only offered a limited top-up which they are close to using up, then contact WHAM via www.cse.org.uk/covid-support or on their advice line number 0800 082 2234.

Help – Community Support Groups

North Somerset Together – is a local authority initiative that aims to help residents who have no support from family or friends and who are socially isolated to access the support they need during the coronavirus pandemic and beyond. It will also help those who want to volunteer to get involved or donate to link up with the right organisations, and signpost businesses to relevant information.  The service provides a Single Point of Access to enable those with greater needs to be identified and escalated to access the relevant wellbeing support.  Residents and businesses can access the service here – www.n-somerset.gov.uk/together.
